Petersfield Indoor Seniors Back on Track
Petersfield senior indoor team put in a solid performance against Portchester B to win by 8 runs. Although the margin was close, Jack Hannam's team had it well under control in the closing overs. The win was set up with a good 79 opening partnership between Will Rice (25no) and Billy Maisey (23). Jack Hannam and Toby Austin chipped in with 15 each as Petersfield reached 125. Liam Charles bowled solidly again taking a wicket which puts him 9th in the overall league averages. Toby Austin bowled accurately and was the other wicket taker as Porchester were kept to 118-2.
The U16s never really got going against Havant but they are learning all the time and are playing a year above themselves. Matt Crouch added to his run tally with 20 runs but Petersfield did not take a wicket as Havant passed their total easily. Matt Crouch popped up for Porchester against Petersfield scoring 20 runs again.

U16s Deserve Their First Win
The U16s achieved their first indoor win against Waterlooville. Batting first, Alex Thomas (17)and Matt Crouch (29no) put on a solid opening partnership which built the foundation of 136-3. Accurate bowling then kept the Waterlooville reply under control and they were forced to make some suicididal runs and fell short of the Petersfield total by 48 runs. Aron Murray and Nicky Caddick took the took wickets which were not run outs. Both were superb catches, one by Jordan Hiscock and one by Nicky Caddick. Notably only 7 wides were bowled.
The seniors lost their first game of the indoor season to Portsmouth B. Too many wides and no balls gave Portsmouth an opportunity and despite some great batting from Christie Salmon (46) and Matt Salmon (27) they fell short by 13 runs. They had looked to have snatched victory when a hard straight drive was deflected by the bowler onto the stumps to run out Matt.

Two in a Row for the Senior Indoor Team
Petersfield secured maximum points in their win over Portsmouth Priory. Their opponents were all out for 90 with some tight bowling from Liam Charles 2-19 and Shaun Blanks 2-20. Some generosity with wides gave Petersfield a bigger total than expected to bowl at. After a solid start from Will Rice and Jack Hannam, Matt Salmon top scored with 18 to see the team through to a win with brother Christie remaining not out.
The U16s bowled better in their 2nd match of the winter but some tight bowling from Portsmouth restricted their reply. Next matches are on 21st November.

£350 from the Michael May Foundation
The club are delighted to be the recipients of a second grant from the Michael May Foundation towards the coaching courses this winter. The Foundation had previously contributed towards coaching equipment for the colts which has helped us achieve what we have.
Michael May had a lifelong involvement with cricket at all levels in Hampshire and was described by Christopher Martin-Jenkins in the Telegraph in 1996 as a "tireless worker for the County's young players". Above all he sought to nurture the development of young cricketers and to foster their enjoyment of the game. The foundation aims to continue this work by helping cricketers under the age of 19 living in Hampshire or the Isle of Wight.
In our particular case the Foundation are contributing to the cost of coaching courses to help the club provide more qualified coaches. This winter Richard Thomas, Anthony Williams and Chris Salmon are taking the Level 1 course and James Stratford-Tuke, Daniel Amis and Kevan Tate are taking the Level 2 course. This year the cost of the courses have increased dramatically and we are very grateful to the Foundation for their support as we continue to grow the club.
