Petersfield colts top indoor league

Petersfield colts top indoor league

Petersfield U16s made it three wins out of three with a convincing victory over Havant on November 6th. They now head the South-East Hampshire Indoor Cricket League with 72 points

Batting first, Petersfield made a blistering start thanks to Newman (26 ret’d) and Hiscock (20), both players very alert to the quick ‘single’ (worth 3 runs in indoor cricket).

Ben Cox upped the run rate still further with some classy straight hitting, making a quick-fire 26 ret’d, before Thomas (12 n.o.) and Caddick (13) consolidated steadily in the closing overs. Helped by a generous contribution from Extras, the lads finished on 157 for 2.

Despite getting off to a frantic start, this total was always going to be too much for Havant. Some tight bowling and sharp fielding eventually restricted the opposition to 122 all out, Petersfield winning by 35 runs.

Special mention for Alex North, making his indoor debut, who contributed to three run-outs and took an excellent catch.

The U16s have played some exceptional indoor cricket so far this season, which will stand them in good stead for some tough matches ahead against Portsmouth (Nov 27th) and Hambledon (Jan 22nd)

Rory Newman is 4th in the league batting averages with 62 runs from three innings, while Ben Cox is 7th with 52 runs, also from three innings. Ben Friend and Jordan Hiscock both make the top 10 in the bowling averages, with Newman and Cox not far behind.

It’s still relatively early in the indoor season and some dangerous opponents lay in wait. But this squad of players for Petersfield have the potential to really make their mark. Watch this space.
