RIP Bill Hindley a short message

Message from the club.

There is no doubt that many colts and Petersfield CC benefitted greatly from Bill's sterling work.

For those who did benefit, he introduced high standards and discipline, he was always early and immaculately turned out, all sessions were serious business where training was a discipline.  He also lightened sessions with his dry sense of humour.

He never lost his enthusiasm for the game.  Even in his 70s he was keen for a game to go on despite impending rain and miserable conditions; when most others wanted to call it off.  He was also generous to opposition youngsters offering advice, sometimes during a game.

He was a much appreciated and good friend to Petersfield cricket club who was a great ambassador for cricket and gave his time generously to the huge benefit of many of our youngsters.

MATCH REPORT: Petersfield vs Portsmouth Priory

Scrappy, a touch nervy at times, but in the end ‘Field completed a comfortable victory over a 5-man Portsmouth Priory

Batting first, Will (26) and Alex (21) got off to a good start, putting on 69 in 6 overs. But then wickets fell in a cluster against some deceptively wily spin bowling and we were bowled out for 99 in the 11th over.

It needed a good bowling performance to turn things round and Damian duly obliged, quickly pinning opener Kent LBW for 0 and Alex completing a sharp stumping off a leg-side wide to remove other opener Lewis for 6.

Priory never recovered from the loss of these early wickets and, despite a flurry of late sixes, eventually subsided to 67 all out. Damian (3-14-2) and Liam (2.1-6-1) were the pick of the bowlers; Shaun and Will picked up a wicket apiece.

It may have been harder work than looked likely at first, but a win’s a win, and it keeps us breathing down the necks of the division’s top three, who can’t afford any slip-ups if we keep winning.

under 16 indoor team win against top of the table

very impressive win for u16 indoor team today against top of the table Purbrook – scored 154 for 3 – Gabe and Ben A’ retired – Ben A came back and stayed undefeated with Joe Clarke at end. They scored about 100 – all out in the 11th over – 2 wickets for Joe Clarke, 1 for Olli and 1 for Dan with 2 run outs and 2 catches for Ben Turk. Final wicket bowled by Olli.

Sad News from Chairman

Dear All,

I am writing to inform all the members of the club of the extremely sad news that Christine Straw has recently passed away following a short illness.  As the wife of Nigel and mother of Frank and Rob not only have the family suffered a great loss but as a highly valued committee member until 2013, the Cricket Club have lost someone who was an integral member for some years and friend to many of us.

The funeral service will be held at Chichester Crematorium, Westhampnett Road, Chichester, PO19 7UH at 4.15 p.m. on Tuesday, 20th January 2015 and afterwards at The Half Moon, 32 London Road, Sheet, Petersfield, GU32 4BE.  The family has requested that there be no flowers please, but donations to MacMillan Cancer Care, ℅ Rowlands Funeral Services, St Peter’s Road, Petersfield, GU32 3HX.

Details of the service from Nigel, Frank and Rob are attached, they have said that all are welcome to attend, it would be nice for them to see people there and that they are extremely appreciative of the support that they have received.

The Club will make a donation to MacMillan Cancer Care.

Kind regards,

James.

James Stratford-Tuke.

Chairman.

A win and a defeat

Well Done the under 16s for a resounding win tonight Portsmouth made 85 all out with 4 run outs (superb fielding lads). They then knocked them off in 8.2 overs with good contributions from Ben Turk (27 n/o), Oli Simpson (17) and Ben Anscombe (14)

Under 13 lads fell just short losing in the last over to Locksheath (another 10 runs would have made it interesting. Great run out from James Longland while sat on the floor in the corner/

The team are still  learning and put in another great effort
