Petersfield U16s vs Waterlooville

Petersfield U16s vs Waterlooville

Petersfield lost by 61 runs

The 16s lost the match but there were plenty of positives to be drawn from this encouraging performance – chiefly the bowling and fielding, which were good throughout.

Bowling first, Petersfield did well to restrict a strong Waterlooville side to 125 off their 12 overs. Ben Turk bowled with great accuracy (17 runs off 3 overs), Gabriel Broadhurst picked up the wicket of opener Reynolds for 9 and Alex Squires was the other wicket taker, removing Knight for 7.

There were sharp catches held by Straw and Broadhurst, but the Waterlooville middle order batted steadily if not spectacularly to push the total past the 100-mark.

In reply, ‘Field lost opener Thomas early for 7, caught behind off district opening bowler Robbins, which triggered a bout of run-out mayhem, with 3 wickets falling in quick succession.  Broadhurst (25) and Straw (11) fought gallantly for the last wicket, before young Gabriel was last out to a miraculous catch on the back wall (that man Robbins again).

Shot selection and running between the wickets remain the areas to work on for this young team, who are gaining experience all the time in this frantic, fast-paced form of the game.
