U16s win again to consolidate third place

The U16s continued their strong end to the indoor season with a comfortable win over Portsmouth & Southsea.
Batting first, Petersfield reached 148 for 5 in their 12 overs despite a few run-out mishaps along the way. Alex Thomas top scored with a controlled 41 not out, well supported by Friend (29) and Groves-Hambridge (15).
In reply, P&S got off to a flyer, but once Caddick had bowled the Hampshire opener Perrin for 9, they quickly subsided under a flurry of run-outs to 77 all out, giving Petersfield a winning margin of 71 runs. Newman finished the match in style by bowling the remaining opener Whitworth for 29 with a spectacular in-ducker.
Although maybe not quite at their best, this comprehensive victory virtually secures a third-place finish in the league for the colts. A convincing win against Fareham in the final fixture, and with other results going our way, might even mean an outside chance of second. This would be no more than our U16s deserve after an impressive indoor season.
