Cricket Force

Dear All,

Thank you very much to all who helped during Cricket Force last weekend, a great effort by a few, particularly, Simon Dodd, Paddy and Dan May, Ian and Ben Turk, the Clarkes (all of them!), John Windebank, Mark Holloway, Jack Hannam, Rob and Ben Anscombe, Rob Allerston and Matt Friend.  My profuse apologies if I have missed anyone, please correct me!

Unlike last year there weren’t any major projects being undertaken this year but the annual maintenance and input of time and energy to wake the club up and make sure it is ready for the forthcoming season is invaluable; it is no coincidence that following last years huge effort the club won the Hampshire Cricket League award for the most improved ground in 2013!

There are still some jobs outstanding from last weekend that we must complete over the next few weeks.  The really good news is that the official weekend for Cricket Force is the 5th and 6th April so we our ahead of the rest of the country and there will still be an opportunity for you, your friends and families to give something back to the cricket club and local community by volunteering to undertake the outstanding tasks. It is fun, I promise, and its  a great way to bring the club together in addition to making sure it is ready for the new season.  If you need an added incentive I’ve now got our supply of Cricket Force T shirts to give out (some of you may need to grow quickly if you want the triple XL to fit!).

Marcus Sampson, Simon Dodd and Mark Holloway will be in touch about a range of jobs that they will be seeking help with over the next few weeks, if you can, and I appreciate that it is not always possible, your help will be expected and greatly appreciated.  I make no apology if the team captains and other committee members start badgering you!

Petersfield Cricket Club recognised again at EHDC sports awards.

Petersfield Cricket Club were recognised at the East Hampshire District

Council Sports Awards for their huge contribution to sport in the local

community, they were runners up in the Club of the Year Award as was their

Under 9A team in the Junior Team of the Year Award.

Petersfield Cricket Club enjoyed another successful year and not only

achieved their targets, but also exceeded many: the 1st

from County Division 4 to County Division 3 and 3rd XI achieved promotion for

the first time from Regional Division 4 to Regional Division 3.

The club continues to provide opportunities for more than 165 five to sixteen

year olds to participate in sport, and to volunteer as coaches at the junior age

levels. The achievements are increasingly due to the colts that have been

with the club from U7 level. The U9A and U15 teams won their respective

Leagues; the U9s won the A Division cementing their spot as the best U9

team in the District.

In 2013 Petersfield Cricket Club entered a Ladies team into Hampshire

League Division 2. The team played nine games, winning five, and finishing

third in the division. The majority of the team developed through the girls’

section. Coaching sessions were run in many local schools, they were then

invited to a coaching session at the club where the older girls assisted in

coaching and mentoring. This initiative resulted in 33 girls joining the club.

The use of the club’s facilities was provided free to local schools.

There were eight boys selected for the South East Hampshire District Squads

in 2013/14 and four selected in their county age group.

With the support of the local councils and other funding bodies, the club have

invested in improving their grounds. In November they were awarded the

prestigious Stan Foster Trophy for the most improved Ground of the Year in

the Hampshire Cricket League.


Amongst other achievements the club are providing specialist coaching

to six of their elite young players, and plan to increase this number during

2014; they passed the annual Club Mark health check and retained their

accreditation; and they continue to be a Hampshire Cricket Focus Club.

The club raised £3,428 for Motor Neurone Disease through the annual charity

match against the Celebrity Comedians.

The Chairman, James Stratford-Tuke, says “That the accolades from EHDC

are great reward for the hard work of the officials, coaches, volunteers;

players, both seniors and colts; and parents. Having been the Club of the

Year in 2012 and receive a similar award in the Junior Club of the Year

category that year and then again last year, to receive these awards to sit

alongside our other achievements is great testimony for all the hard work.

Message From Colts Manager

With all colts coaching now underway we thought it was an appropriate time to send a welcome letter to everyone that has joined the club and also an important Code of Conduct document which the club has agreed. This covers the conduct we expect of everyone connected with the club including the colts, parents, spectators and coaches.

I hope that your sons / daughters are enjoying the cricket coaching. In terms of half term we have a full programme of coaching this weekend (14 & 16 Feb) and then next weekend (21 Feb) only the girls coaching will be taking place.

I have also been asked to forward the following information about a quiz from Lisbeth Thomas. The quiz is normally excellent fun and well worth doing.

I will be in touch about other planned events soon and I am discussing with other coaches the plans for the summer sessions and will let you know that as soon as possible too.

Annual 200 Club Letter

“200” CLUB COMPETITION 

                                                                                                                                         February 2014

As a valued member of our “200” Club Competition, I am writing to thank you for your continued support last season and to seek your support for another year and to let you know that after 30 sterling years of effort, John has finally put the lid on his draw bucket and handed it over to me, I can’t promise that I will stick it out for so many years though!

See the link at the bottom of this report for a list of last year’s prize winners and I hope you were lucky enough to be amongst them, but if not, there is a good chance that it will be if you enrol now.

The contributions from the Club over the last 40 years have been invaluable.  Many thousands of pounds have been transferred to the Club funds, which has enabled us to improve the amenities for members and visitors at both our facilities, Penns Place and The Heath. This year it helped us to contribute towards the new artificial surfaces on both the Heath and at Penns Place.

2013 proved to be a very successful year for PCC. We started the year with a record number of 13 colts, out of the 22 nominated, being selected for either the District or County Squads.  

We secured promotion for our 1^st & 3^rd XI and delivered on our goal of developing talent in the colts, most significantly in the 3^rd XI which has a core of U13/15 players, and also in the 2^nd & 1^st XI’s which both regularly featured our older colts.  This talent is testimony to the efforts of all our qualified coaches over the last few years.

2013 was the first year for many years that Petersfield Cricket Club has been represented with a Senior Ladies team, which this year competed in the Hampshire League finishing a creditable 5th from the 10 teams in the Hampshire Ladies league division 2; many of those ladies came through our Colts section.

The club ran another successful charity cricket match raising £3428 for the Broad Appeal in aid of Motor Neurone Disease Research.  We have also extended the bar license opening hours each brought with it significant increase in business.

At the end of the year, we were recognised by the Hampshire league winning the Stan Foster Trophy for the most improved ground in 2013 (selected from 196 clubs!).

We have a number of committee members retiring from their posts this year many of whom have played or supported the senior cricket for some time. We are sorry to lose them and wish them the very best for the future and hope to see a number of them returning to the club in the future.

Your membership of the “200” Club provides the Cricket Club with essential revenue, and with the rising costs of both ground preparation and the maintenance of equipment and pavilions, your contribution is vital to help the club build a strong & sustainable platform for the future.  We are always looking for new members too, so if you can spread the word that would be much appreciated.

On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Club, I would like to thank you again and hope that we can rely on your support for the coming season. 

Finally, I am sure you will join with me to thank John, as he retires from PCC, for the enormous efforts he has put in to this fundraising initiative over the last 30years and wish him all the best for the future.

Colts Winter training and Key dates

Dear All,
We’re delighted to let you know that we have now finalised our plans for this winter colts cricket sessions, and with this week’s AGM agreeing to keep our membership fees the same as last year, we can now send out the arrangements and membership forms and start dreaming about Petersfield matches (so much more fulfilling than staying up and listening to the Ashes!)
Before I provide the details of next terms arrangements a few reminders:

We are pleased to confirm that we have again secured the Sports Hall at Bedales and we have also secured a full programme at TPS this year. We will be running indoor coaching sessions in the Spring Term with a full programme planned for all age groups.

We’re very pleased to be able to announce that we have retained our ClubMark Status and are continuing to invest in increasing the number of qualified coaches. Our lead coaches will be supported by qualified assistants, people who are qualifying as coaches and some of our senior colts. If any parent wishes to undertake a coaching course, to help with the sessions, please do contact me. Hampshire Cricket Board will be running further cricket courses next Autumn. Equally if any of the older colts wish to help, please let me know and we'll see if we can include them in our plans.
Finally, we are pleased to be able to confirm that notwithstanding the fact that the costs of running the cricket club continue to increase, we have been able to keep the membership fees for 2014 the same as 2013 (which was the same as 2012). We have also been able to retain the discount for early payment that we introduced a couple of years ago.
Please remember that we require all membership forms and payments to be made before the coaching can be provided. A copy of the 2014 application form is attached, and like last year, can be returned to either our Treasurer, Nicky May, at 50 Moggs Mead, PETERSFIELD, Hampshire GU31 4NX , or passed to myself. Senior Winter Training starts 12th January 2014

Winter training starts next weekend. 5pm at Bedales sports hall. PLEASE do not park by the sports hall. parking is only allowed there for coaches with equipment. All parking must be in the juniors carpark or the front car park.

For 2014 your captains want to work on improvements to the way we have run winter training with some structured fitness and skills training alongside traditional nets. They'll be explaining more as you arrive but a summary is below - a prompt arrival for 5pm start will really help us deliver this.

• Structured warmup session from 5pm
• Drills & skills training - batting, fielding, bowling, wicketkeeping
• Structured nets for small numbers - focus on 'in game' objectives and plans for batters/bowlers
• Open Net for anyone who just wants a traditional net session

We aim to keep the open net limited to prevent people having to stand around. I'd encourage you to get involved in the training this is great opportunity to build on last year and develop our in field skills to enable development of all senior cricket sides.
