Petersfield Cricket Clubs Heath Wins Hampshire Cricket Grounds Award

From left to right Andy Salmon (Grounds Manager) Neil Hitch (Town Clerk), Toby Austin (Groundsman), Tim Tremlett, John Sutherland (The Heath Groundsman), Nick Blakstad (Club Chairman), Chris Mills (Town Councillor)
Members of Petersfield Town Council and Petersfield Cricket Club took a trip to The Aegas Bowl to collect the award for the most improved cricket ground in the Hampshire League presented by Tim Tremlett, the Director of Hampshire Cricket.
Throughout the year, visiting captains score the ground on categories such as the strip, the outfield and facilities. From these scores, grounds are shortlisted and visited by the judges. The Heath had been shortlisted before but this year managed to take the award ahead of 192 other teams in the League.
As the cricket club became more successful in increasing the participation of young people and introducing ladies cricket back to the club, the 12 strip square on the Heath was expected to be at full capacity. This required much more volunteering time than the club members could provide and the club went to Petersfield Town Council for support. Since 2010, the Town Council have provided support which has enabled the club to not only put on around 60 games a year but also to improve the standard of the ground.
Much of the hard work is done by John Sutherland (seen above holding the award) who is the main groundsman, but he is also supported by volunteers during April and May which are the busy times of season. The club has also raised large sums through grants and fund raising and this has gone towards building new net facilities, new equipment and a new scoreboard and improvements to the pavilion.
The main project in 2013 was to restore the footpath to the north of the ground and divert the increasing number of pedestrians away from the playing area. This was a collaborative effort between the cricket club, the Town Council and Friends of the Heath. Together with 4 years of winter scarifying, this has helped improve the outfield and restore the grass coverage.
In 2013, Ladies Cricket returned to the Heath after over 100 years as the club entered a team into the Hampshire League. Photos in the pavilion show ladies cricket being played on the Heath in the 19th century when there were no trees at all.
Grounds Manager, Andy Salmon said “John and the volunteers can be particularly proud of what they have achieved, however, without the support of the Town Council this would not have been possible. The Heath is a wonderful place to play cricket and you won’t find many more beautiful grounds. It is also used by the community for picnics, family rounders and cricket matches on the outfield. This is great to see but sadly there are a few people in the area who find it necessary to cause deliberate damage to the playing strips and play inappropriate games on the outfield such as golf. This has increased the work required and makes winning the award even more special. If we thought that the vandalism would stop, then we could achieve much more.”
If you are interested in playing at the Heath, new players are very welcome. Please contact Marcus Sampson (Club Captain) 07966 267212 if you are interested in men’s or social cricket and Chris Russell (Ladies Head Coach) 07785 977977 if you are interested in girls’ or ladies cricket and Paddy May (Colts’ Manager) 07717 774946 if you are between 5 and 17.

Breaking News

Dear All,

The Hampshire Cricket League earlier this evening asked if the 3rd XI were willing to be promoted to RD3 for next season!

This is a fantastic accolade for what we have achieved, for those who were at the presentation evening, and were able to stay awake, would have heard me rattle off some of the club records that we broke last season, this is now the icing on the cake!  A team largely made up of colts, 6 of whom played their first game of senior cricket during the course of the year, ably supported by some slightly older and some not so young players thoroughly deserve this promotion.

It has been a privilege to captain the side, thank you all very much for your contribution. I will be in touch again soon asking for your availability for next season, hopefully see you all in RD3!

Petersfield v Ashford Hill

Result: Petersfield CC 3rd
XI Won by 13 runs
Date: Sat 31st Aug 2013
With still a slim chance of promotion, Petersfield 3's arrived at Penn's Place for the last time this season
knowing a win may not be enough to secure the final promotion place. Relying on other results is never a
good thing but Captain James StratfordTuke
was very keen to go out on a winning note. With that in mind
he was able to field a team made up of the bulk of the players who had put the team in with a shout of
promotion from Regional division 4 Northeast. Petersfield won the toss and decided to bat on a late
summers day hoping to get the best of the light (this would prove crucial later in the game)
Petersfield got off to a great start with James StratfordTuke
(32) and John Windebank (20) giving the side a
fine start with 58 off the first 12 overs. James playing some lovely strokes, before John was bowled by Roy
Evans (119
off 7) as pace off the ball helped to stem the run flow from the Petersfield side. Steve Wadswoth
(330
off 8) then removed James and young Ben Anscombe (4) in 4 overs. Paddy May (14) and Rob
Anscombe took the score along to 86 before Paddy nicked a rising ball off Wadsworth through to the
keeper. With Rob departing to Evans caught at mid wicket, Oscar Windebank (11 off 10 balls) had joined
Rob Allerston (35) and they pushed the scoring rate back up and got the score to 115 before Oscar was
bowled by opening bowler Matt Vickery (135
off 9) trying to lift him over mid wicket for another 4. At this
stage it looked like Petersfield would post a below par score, it was then left to the lower middle order to
steady the ship as Rob Allerston was joined by Ben Turk (34 not out) the pair rebuilt the innings slowly to
start with and then accellerated as they realised Petersfield needed the runs and points.
With Rob talking to his young partner all the time, they pushed the score along at 6 or 7 an over and started
to dominate the tiring Ashford Hill bowling attack and fielders. By the time Rob was bowled by Barry Monger
(340
off 9) the score had progressed to 164. Oli Simpson (3) joined Ben and they ran well to put on 12 in 8
balls to leave the score on 1798
which gave Petersfield with 4 batting points and a defendable total, Ashford
Hill dropped 6 catches to aid the total but Petersfield should take credit for making the most of the chances
given to them.
After an extended tea (both sides loved it too much) Petersfield set abut trying to bowl Ashford Hill out.
Opening bowlers Ben Turk (340
off 10) and Oscar Windebank (325
off 10) bowled tightly with Oscar in
particular almost unplayable with his line and length immaculate. Stand in keeper Dave Squires did not have
a lot to do apart from catch the ball as 75% of the balls Oscar bowled whistled past the outside and inside
edges of both openers bats. With both the opening bowlers vying for the bowler of the year it was Ben Turk
who benefitted from Oscars line and length as first Bernard Clarke (4) and fellow opener Andy Wisden (19)
played at balls they should have left alone, but they were so desperate to get the score board moving they
had no choice.
Oli Simpson (126
off 5) came on first change to remove Matt Vickery (3) Lbw with Rob Straw (114
off 5)
who both bowled very well at the other end getting his reward for his line and length removing Kevin Perry (6
off 38 balls). Despite the run rate rising, at drinks on 21 overs Ashford Hill were on 754.
Captain
StratfordTuke
tried to stem the run flow by bringing on wily campaigners Rob Allerston (226
off 5.1) and
Rob Anscombe (010
off 3) The Ashford Hill batsmen Martin Hutchins (25) and Barry Monger (3) were then
removed by the returning opening bowlers Turk and Windebank is successive overs as the light started to
fade very fast as the sun disappeared behing the EHDC council offices. This bought Steve Wadsworth (38)
to the crease and he proceeded to make light (excuse the pun) of the poor light as he hit some towering
shots off all the bowlers. He and keeper Steve Milne (16) took the score from 956
to 1237
before Milne was
caught by John Windebank at a suicidal short cover off Oscar's spinner which he was having to bowl due to
the light. Steve Peters (0) came and went as in the next over he edged one off Squires' pads into the midrift
of captain StratfordTuke
at slip who gleefully clutched the ball in an instant, Peters stunned that the keeper
and slip could even see the ball never mind catch it. This wicket looked to have clinched the game for
Petersfield but in a defiant and then almost match winning innings Steve Wadsworth seemed to be the only
player in either side to see the ball as he and Cliford Butler took the score to 161 before Wadsworth again
went for the big hit off Rob Allerston, the ball went miles in to the sky and despite the ball looking like a low
flying satellite against the dark blue sky, young Ben Anscombe got underneath the ball and watched it all
the way in to his hands to claim a magnificent catch at deep longon.
A more important catch I have not
seen all season and had even the older members of the team rushing to congratulate him. With the light
now almost pitch black, Rob Allerston removed Roy Evans by nicking the top of off stump to leave Ashford
Hill 13 runs short, although as if to prove how dark it was the spectators thought keeper Squires had taken
a catch behind!
Great credit must go to Ashford Hill who batted on in the gathering gloom to give Petersfield yet another nail
biting win, they could so easily have said sorry we cannot see the ball and claimed a draw.
With the 3 wickets apiece for the two opening bowlers Oscar Windebank capped off a fine season with the
bowling award. Rob Anscombe taking the batting award
Men of The Match Ben
Turk and Rob Allerston for their all round performances
Moment of the Match Well
it has to go to Ben Anscombe's fantastic catch which effectively won the game,
catches win matches as the old saying goes.

Petersfield 3s V Herriard 2s

Result: Herriard - 2nd XI Won by 37 runs
Date: Sat 24th Aug 2013
Start Time: 14:00

After all the early morning rain in Hampshire it was a surprise that the game was on but Herriard had the covers on and worked hard to get the game on. On a green pitch with a lot of grass on it Petersfield captain James Stratford-Tuke won the toss and elected to bowl first. Both sides were pushing for the last promotion place so there was a lot to play for.

The Herriard openers looked circumspect against the seaming ball but had pushed the score along to 21 before young Ben Turk (4-38 off 10) broke the partnership with a full length delivery which cleaned up N Wolley (10) removing leg stump. They added just six more before Turk repeated the ball accounting M Bullpit for a duck.
Herriard then set about rebuilding the innings as Captain S Weston (41) and K Peachy (52) put on 107 for the 3rd wicket taking advantage of some wayward and short bowling. Omar Iqbal (2-33 off  who had been struggling with the foot holes got 1 in the correct place and removed Peachy LBW as he missed a full straight delivery. With that breakthrough captain Stratford-Tuke brought Turk back and in his first over back he removed Captain Weston with another full straight delivery LBW to cap another wonderful bowling performance from the young 13 year old medium pacer. Petersfield looked to be right back in the game with Herriard 150-5 but J Holder (51) batted fantastically well with the rest of the lower middle order despite wickets falling regularly at the other end with Ollie Simpson (2-44 off 7) removing 2 wickets in 2 overs despite some wayward bowling at times. Oscar Windebank (2-38 off 9.5) finished off the Herriard innings bowling Holder. With only 4 players reaching double figures Petersfield will be disappointed with the number of extras conceded (40),Herriard finishing on 212 all out which looked a very competitive total even with the pitch and outfield drying out after 15 overs of light rain in the middle of their innings.

Petersfield struggled at the start of their innings to get the ball away as Herriard started with 1 spinner and a slow medium pacer reduced Petersfield to 18-4 with openers Lawes (3-21 off 10) and young spinner Coombs (3-36 off 10) bowling an accurate line and length. Eoin Seager (53) and Omar Iqbal (20) looked to be performing the same rebuilding task as Herriard until Omar missed a very slow delivery from P Mccarthy (4-54 off 9.1) to be bowled. That brought Rob Anscombe (57) to the crease and proved yet again what a valuable asset he has been in the success that Petersfield 3s have seen this season. Rob carried on from where Omar had left off and put on 85 for 6th wicket with Eoin Seager. Both players manouvered the ball around the field keeping the score ticking along at 5 or 6 runs an over. Coombs and Lawes returned to the attack and helped to dry up the runs which forced Eoin to play across the line to a Coombs delivery to be caught at mid wicket. WIth Petersfield having a strong batting line up there was still a good chance that Petersfield could chase down the total despite having lost 6 wickets.

Unfortunately this proved not to be the case as the lower order struggled to generate the pace off the slow bowlers Coomb and.Mccarthy and succumbed to these bowlers trying to force the score along. When Rob Anscombe went again trying to push the scoring rate up it was a lost cause even with some lusty hitting from Ed Davenport (10) including a massive 6 off the first ball he faced. Petersfield ended on 175 which meant they scored only 11 points and Herriard taking a maximum 24 points.Herriard batted well and having home knowledge had the better bowlers for the wicket produced.

Petersfield have now dropped to 5th in the league and Herriard are up to 4th there is now only 1 average point between 4 sides vying for the last promotion place going into the last weekend of the season.

Man of the Match - shared between 3 players Ben Turk, Rob Anscombe and Eoin Seager
Moment of the match - Ed Davenport's mighty six off his first delivery

Petersfield 2s vs Rotherwick ITW

Petersfield 2s vs Rotherwick ITW

The Mighty 2s beat Rotherwick at the Heath last weekend in a dramatic finish played out in torrential rain and near darkness.

Losing the toss and inevitably asked to bat on a showery, dismal day, ‘Field got off to a slow start, losing Matt Salmon early for 12. Fellow opener Alex Thomas took until the first rain stoppage to get off the mark, but then played increasingly fluently in an impressive partnership with Chris Russell.

The pair put on 153 and looked in little difficulty as they rotated the strike and put away the bad ball, so it was something of a surprise when Thomas top-edged a sweep to short fine-leg for 52. Russell then pushed the scoring along and expertly marshalled the tail on his way to a superb, unbeaten 118, an innings of the highest class.

‘Field finished on 237 for 6, their highest total of the season batting first and surely a match-winning one... or was it?

Tea was taken early as the weather closed in, and it was raining quite heavily as Rotherwick started their reply. Conditions worsened as the afternoon drew on – at one stage the covers were being dragged on and off quicker than a pair of a you-know-what’s drawers – and when the ground was hit by a particularly heavy downpour at the 17-over mark, it looked that Petersfield, well on top at this stage, would be denied a vital victory and the match abandoned.

The ‘Field players refused to leave the pitch as the rain teemed down (apart from Doddy, who was heard to mutter “**** this was a laugh” before retiring to the warmth of the pavilion for a fag). And when the rain somehow stopped momentarily, immediately off came the covers and unbelievably it was game on – again.

With the calculators out, the equation was this: Rotherwick needed 146 off 23 overs to win this rain-reduced game. At this point they were behind the rate thanks to skilful bowling from Ben Cox and Nick Woodruff, but some superb hitting from veteran opener Buccingham (69) put Rotherwick right back in it. This was suddenly going right down to the wire.

Despite some tight seam-up bowling at the death by Chris Russell and Richard Stephens, with the pressure mounting all the time, backed by some heroic fielding on the boundary from Cox and Nigel Straw in particular, 8 needed off the last over became 2 off the last ball.

Stephens took the ball. He paused at the top of his run-up, gimlet-eyed, as the rain poured down. The batsman fidgeted at the other end and adjusted his pads. This was cricket not as a team game (none of the fielders were able to see the ball anyway in the gathering gloom) but mano-a-mano, man-to-man. Who would prevail?

Stephens skipped in, the ball pitched, seamed away slightly, the batsman swung.... and missed. ‘Keeper Thomas gathered the ball, decided against throwing down the stumps (wisely), sprinting up to demolish them instead. Batsman run out and a breathless victory to Petersfield.

This was a superb game of club cricket, played in a wonderful spirit by two teams going all-out to win. Full credit to Rotherwick and also to their umpire, who was scrupulously fair in allowing both teams every chance to push for victory in the wettest playing conditions that anyone could remember, more suitable by the end for wallowing hippos than highly-toned, mud-spattered athletes (ahem...)

This tremendous win for the 2s may not be enough to stave off relegation but it was a desperately determined, fighting performance, and also one of great skill, and the team should take great pride in it.

PETERSFIELD CC MATCH REPORT VS DONNIGTON 17/08/13

PETERSFIELD CC MATCH REPORT VS DONNIGTON 17/08/13
PETERSFIELD REMAINED ON COURSE FOR PROMTION WITH A 5 WICKET VICTORY OVER DONNINGTON IN A RAIN AFFECTED MATCH. JACK HANNAM WON THE TOSS AND PREDICTIABLY PUT THE HOSTS INTO BAT AS IT WAS INEVITABLE THAT THE GAME WOULD BE REDUCED IN THE SECOND INNINGS.
DONNINGTON MADE A SLOW START AGAINST HANNAM, BLANKS AND NIGEL STONE WITH JUST 55 ON THE BOARD FROM THE FIRST 16 OVERS WHEN LAWRENCE WAS ADJUDGED LBW TO STONE. TAIT AND SKIPPER DANDO INCREASED THE RUN RATE TAKING FULL ADVANTAGE OF ONE INCREDIBLY SMALL BOUNDARY ADDING 45 FROM THE NEXT 8. HANNAM TURNED TO TOBY AUSTIN (10-1-33-3) IN SEARCH OF THE BREAKTHROUGH GETTING INSTANT REWARD WITH A WICKET FROM HIS FIRST DELIVERY WELL HELD BY CRISTIE SALMON AT SECOND SLIP.
THIS ONLY BROUGHT THE DANGEROUS SHEPARD TO THE CREASE FRESH FROM HIS UNBEATEN 140 THE PREVIOUS WEEK. WITH THE WEATHER GETTING INCREASINGLY BAD HE RODE HIS LUCK AND DESPITE BEING DROPPED SEVERAL TIMES SMASHED AN UNBEATEN 99 FROM 76 DELIVERIES LEAVING THE HOSTS WITH A COMPETITIVE 235 FROM THE 45 OVERS.
WITH THE SECOND INNINGS REDUCED TO 40 OVERS PETERSFIELD REQUIRED 226 FOR VICTORY. THE VISITORS LOST SALMON IN THE 4TH OVER WITH THE SCORE AT JUST 17. WILL RICE JOINED ASH SPENCER AND PLAYED IN TYPICALLY AGGRESSIVE FASHION SCORING 33 FROM 28 BALLS BEFORE HE SKIED A FULL LENGTH DELIVERY AND WAS WELL HELD BY LAWRENCE. BLANKS (11) AND NEWMAN (0) CAME AND WENT LEAVING IN FORM MAN TOBY AUSTIN (27) TO REPAIR THE INNINGS WITH SPENCER (79*). THEY ADDED 58 WHEN AUSTIN ATTEMPTING A BIG STRAIGHT DRIVE MISJUDGED THE DELIVERY AND WAS STUMPED.

LIAM CHARLES JOINED SPENCER AND ADDED 16 RUNS FROM THE NEXT 10 DELIVERIES. THIS PROVED VITAL AS THE GAME WAS CLOSED BY THE UMPRIE DUE TO BAD LIGHT AT THE END OF THE OVER WITH PETERFIELD ON 168. IT WAS CALCULATED THAT THE VISITORS REQUIRED 164 GIVING PETERSFIELD ANOTHER VITAL VICTORY.

Petersfield U9 Panthers Secure SEHCA U9A League Title

Petersfield U9 Panthers Secure SEHCA
U9A League Title
Final Win caps great season for Panthers
Petersfield Panthers U9s went into the last game if the season against Purbrook needing a win
to guarantee them the champions spot in the SE Hants U9A league. The Panthers gave debuts
to William Osbourne and Finn Robersen and the two showed no signs of nerves as they opened
the bowling and took 3 wickets in their opening spell. Purbrook fell further behind as Louis
Wadsworth took 20
and Sam Paul (219)
turned the screw and as the final pair came to the
wicket it looked as though the visitors would struggle to raise a defendable total. However a flurry
of boundaries raised the final Purbrook score to 246. Petersfield made steady progress when
they batted and ended up comfortable winners finishing up on 299.
This marks the second year of success for the team, who added the U9A title to the B league
won last year. The final analysis read won 8 and lost 2 games and included wins over top
Southern League teams Portsmouth, Hambledon and Burridge. Top run getters for the season
were David Evans (124 runs) Jack McKechnie (66) and Fergus McClean (63) while Seb
Browning (11 wickets) Tom Griffin (9) and Zac Franklin (9) toped the bowling averages. Together
with a semifinal
place at the Hants CC Ageas Bowl U9 tournament this capped a great season
for the team where every player has contributed to the teams success.
With victory over Purbrook in their last match of the season, the Panthers won the U9A title,
finishing with 8 wins and two losses from their 10 games played. It was a great performance by
the squad, with every member playing their part.
The season started brightly with two wins over Purbrook, a win over Portsmouth and (my
personal favourite) a win over Hambledon – where some excellent bowling restricted Hambledon
to a mere 214, taking 12 wickets in the process.
Even a midseason
blip, with away defeats to Hambledon and Portsmouth, couldn’t stop
Petersfield’s march for the championship. A doubleheader
against closest challengers Burridge
ended in two crushing victories for Petersfield, setting up the titleclinching
finale with Purbrook.
Special mention to David Evans, whose 124 runs led the league, and Seb Browning, who topped
the league bowling averages with 12 wickets (ahead of Zac Franklin, David Evans, Tom Griffin
and Sam Paul, with 10, 9, 9 and 8 wickets respectively, which meant that Petersfield had the
league’s top 5 wickettakers).
Thanks go to the parents and, of course, the brothers and sisters who supported the side so
well. With several members of the squad still being U9 next year, there is a good chance that,
with a lot of hard work over the next year, the boys can retain the title in 2014.
Petersfield U9A Panthers Squad 2013:
Seb Browning, Mark Butcher, David Evans, Zac Franklin, Tom Griffin, Fergus Maclean, Hamish
Maguire, Tom Mason, Jack McKechnie, Tom MorganRush,
William Osbourne, Sam Paul, Fin
Roberson, Theo Truss, Louis Wadsworth.
Well done lads!

Petersfield Under 15s win the league

PRESS RELEASE
Petersfield U15 Cricket Team Clinch League Title

Whilst all the results are not yet in, Petersfield Under 15 Cricket Team have taken an unassailable lead at the top of their division. Five teams contested the SE Hampshire U15B league this year (Hayling Island the 6th team dropped out after Petersfield beat them by over 160 runs) with each team playing each other home and away in 20 over per innings matches.
Petersfield won 6 of their league 8 games amassing 117 points in the process (out of a maximum available of 168). Petersfield beat Portsmouth Community and Portsmouth both home and away and won 1 and lost 1 against both Steep and United Services Portsmouth. A number of the Petersfield matches were nail bitingly close, losing to Steep by 1 run at home and beating Steep by 4 runs away, beating US Portsmouth by 2 runs at home and losing in the last over away and beating Portsmouth Community at home in the last over. Dave Squires and Paddy May, the Petersfield coaches were noticeably greyer by the end of the season!
Petersfield played brilliantly as a team and Alex Squires the Petersfield Captain hailed the team spirit and the positive attitude as key factors in the success of the team. Petersfield U15 v Portsmouth Community U15 - 24th July 2013

Petersfield U15 Match Reports
Petersfield U15 v Portsmouth Community U15 - 24th July 2013
Result:
Portsmouth Community U15 – 112 for 5; Petersfield U15 – 116 for 7
Petersfield U15 won by 3 wickets
Petersfield U15 beat Portsmouth Community U15 by 3 wickets to go top of the league, although at one stage it looked for all the world as if Petersfield were going to lose. Alex Squires the Petersfield captain won the toss and decided to mix it up by electing to field first so that although Petersfield would be batting in the gathering gloom they would know what score to chase.
Ben Turk (1 for 18) and Alex Squires (1 for 20) bowled very accurately and restricted Portsmouth Community to 18 from the first 4 overs. Dan May (0 for 22) and Harry Richards (1 for 19) carried on where Turk and Squires had left off so that although Portsmouth Community were not losing any wickets they were not scoring freely. Joe Mayell, behind the stumps, caught Bowen for 15 in the 10th over (bowled by Richards) to take the first wicket. A smart bit of fielding from Joe Clarke saw Cummings run out without troubling the scorer in the next over. Joe Clarke (0 for 20) replaced Richards and carried on bowling accurate and dangerous swing bowling. Ben Anscombe (1 for 9) replaced May and bowled some very controlled off spin which caused the Portsmouth batsman no end of trouble and he took a well-deserved wicket with Dan Parry taking a superb reflex catch at silly mid-off. Turk and Squires came back to wrap up the Portsmouth inning each taking a wicket in their second spell caught by Mayell and Claasen respectively. Portsmouth ended up on 112 for 5 with their score assisted by 42 extras (although to speed the game up wides and no-balls were worth 2 runs with no extra ball). It was expected that this score would be no problem to the normally free scoring Petersfield.
Gabriel Broadhurst, who is in superb form, and Dan Parry opened the innings for Petersfield. With Andrews (0 for 20) and Palmer (2 for 11) bowling with real control and lots of movement off the pitch Petersfield were struggling to gain their normal momentum. In the 4th over Palmer accounted for both Broadhurst (9) and Ben Anscombe (0). Two overs later Dan Parry was caught by Bowen off his own bowling for 3 off 17 balls. Joe Mayell and Rory Claasen started a mini revival putting on 15 before Mayell was bowled by Bowen for 4 with Claasen run out soon after for 9. Tommy Matthews playing his first game for the U15 took the attack to Portsmouth before he was bowled for 5. This brought Joe Clarke and Ben Turk to the crease. With more than half the overs gone and Petersfield on 53 for 6 it looked like Portsmouth Community were going to gain revenge for their defeat to Petersfield earlier in the season. However Joe Clarke and Ben Turk had other ideas. Clarke played the perfect foil to the aggressive and hard hitting Turk with the pair of them putting on 38 runs before Joe Clarke was bowled for 5 (in 13 balls) by Max Cummings who had swapped his normal wicket keeping gear to become a bowler. This brought Captain Alex Squires to the crease to see if he could save the day for Petersfield. Squires (6 NO) and Turk (42 NO) saw Petersfield home with 3 wickets and 1 over to spare. Turk batted beautifully to guide Petersfield home and although he batted aggressively it was all proper cricket shots.
This match brought an end to the Petersfield U15 season. Overall it looks like they will win the league winning 6 of their 8 games (although 5 of their games (including both losses) were very close games. The U15 should be proud of what they have achieved this year.
