Petersfield won by 7 runs with the totals being
Portmouth (batted first) - 262 for 9
Petersfield - 269 for 5
It
was a wonderfully sunny game on the sea front at Southsea and proved to
be a very open and evenly matched game - the first of the season for
both teams.
The
bowling was generally good (especially considering it was the first
time for most) and the batting was at times superb.
Petersfield bowled consistently and took wickets at a steady rate with
nearly all our bowlers taking at least one wicket. The fielding was
steady, with the only down side being a few over-throws due to fielders
not backing up the bowler or wicket keeper, however there were also a
number of really good diving saves near the boundary and some great
throws in with 3 run outs achieved by great team work.
when it came time to bat, the boys did us proud. They scored steadily and there were some flashes of genius - the
sweep shot seems to be our collective favourite with 3 fours coming off this shot to virtually the same spot on the boundary.
Portsmouth
made us feel very welcome and the game was played in exactly the right
way with both teams supporting and encouraging their own players as well
as recognising good play from the other team.
Petersfield
team was made up of: Ben Hegan, Rory Crispin, Tom Dillon, Joshua
Matyear, Ben Moller, Jasper Shine, Alex Hulme and Freddie Bell (c).
