2s win again to continue fine form

Petersfield 2nd X1 vs Andover
Saturday 26th July 2014

On probably the hottest day of the year the toss was vital to win and with the Andover skipper making the wrong call, Petersfield chose to bat and got off to a good start with the brothers Austin putting on 72 for the first wicket.  Toby first to go for a fine 29.  Steady but effective batting from Henry saw him pass 50 in only his second innings in two years.  Two quick wickets by the Andover attack bought together the two senior statesmen of the side to steady the ship and rebuild the innings with a 50+ partnership.  Allerston going for a diligent 28 to then let loose the hard hitting Straw to smash a quick fire 21 off a dozen or so balls including two huge sixes to see ‘field’ pass the 200 mark finishing on 215 for 5 with the other senior statesman Russell with a fine not out for 41.

After the tea interval Petersfield set about making short work of the Andover batting with Oscar Windebank 2 for 21 and Ben Turk 5 for 12 ripping out the heart and soul of the top and middle order with only Andover skipper Roberts showing any resistance with 19 and only the fragile fingers of Russell at slip giving him a couple of lives.  Next top scorer being extras with 7!  Leaving ‘safe hands’ Gumbe to wrap up the innings with 2 for 3 in just 17.1 overs – all out for a meagre 49 in just over an hour of play not giving time for the fine tea of Sarah Turk to even go down to secure a full 24 points for a promotion push and a fine all round team performance.
