We have found a new
opponent with a young side to match our young guns and took to the
field to bat 1st in a 16 over game of pairs cricket
against Chichester Priory on Monday. Although this was an under 12’s
game most of the Petersfield players were under 10, with Gabby Wadey
making her debut at only 6 years old.
Petersfield produced a
very solid batting performance with virtually every player making a
scoring contribution. The lack of boundaries proved that it’s
keeping your wicket and not hitting boundaries that produce a good
score in this format of the game as Petersfield posted an impressive
263 for the loss of 2 wickets from their 16 overs. The highlight of
which was the scampered 2 runs by Gabby and Ellie from the
penultimate ball of the innings.
2 things made the
difference for Petersfield in this game. Firstly they bowled exactly
half the amount of wides and no balls as their opposition and in
addition to this they took an amazing 9 wickets leaving Chichester 34
runs short at 229 for 9. Lauren bowled extremely well supported by
Ella’s wicket keeping with 2 caught behinds but overall the wickets
were shared around although a special mention should go to Ola for
her 2 high catches and 3 wickets from 2 overs. Madeline also took her
1st wicket for the club.
With another 30 girls
practising whilst this game took place the future is not looking bad
for the girls section of the club.
