Petersfield v Locks Heath U13

Result:  Locks Heath CC - Under 13 Won  by 4 wickets
Date:  Sun 9th Jun 2013
Start Time: 10:00
Ground: The Heath, Petersfield

With the memory of Thursday night's game still fresh in the coaches and players mind the team arrived at The Heath on a sunny and glorious Sunday morning in Petersfield. Even if the kids did not appreciate the weather and superb surroundings the spectators certainly did with great support from both sets of parents (very nice to see)

Petersfield won the toss and captain Gabriel Broadhurst chose to bat first prompting questions from his swing bowlers. Broadhurst and Tommy Mathews (4) opened the batting and put on 24 for the first wicket before Tommy mistimed a pull to midwicket. This brought Ben Turk to the crease and after being dropped again at midwicket main Locksheath pay by scoring 30 not out off 12 balls! including one beautiful 6 over long-on which would have cleared the adult boundary never mind the under 13 one. Locksheath were very glad of the 30 and retirement rule at under 13 level as Ben looked in the sort of form to destroy any bowling attack, poor Locksheath bowler Arbor bearing the brunt of the onslaught with his 1 over going for 17 even though it was a decent over of seam up bowling. The onslaught from Ben took the pressure off Broadhurst (30 not out) who was struggling to get the bowling away even though his innings was just what was required in his coaches opinion. Jack Butcher (17) joined Broadhurst and played some solid cricket shots in partnership with Broadhurst and then Joe Clarke (7) who looked determined to prove to his coach that he can bat after being moved down the order to give others a chance. Petersfield finished on 118-2 off their 20 overs.

Petersfield got off to the perfect start with both opening bowlers Harry Richards (1-31 off 4) and Ben Turk (1-18 off 3.3) removed 2 of the first 3 batsmen in the first 2 overs. J Hoffer (19) joined opener M Caster (30 not out) and rebuilt the innings with Caster playing some powerful drives on both sides of the wicket. To emphasise the difference in the fielding and intensity from Petersfield in comparison to Thursday night (from all players) Caster hit a beautiful off drive which was travelling at great pace and looking destined for the boundary until Tommy Matthews swooped and stopped the ball with both hands and casually threw the ball back to the bowler. As with all great fielders in cricket he made the stop look insanely easy. Another good piece of cricket removed Hofer as Joe Clarke picked the ball up under arm and got the ball in quickly to keeper Ed Milford who removed the bails with Hofer about an inch short. WIth leg spinner Cameron Porteous (1-7 off 2) removing Matt Jones (1) and Joe Clarke following up his run out with a lovely delivery to remove G Hanson (8) it looked like the pressure was going to get Petersfield a win. Unfortunately wicket keeper M Holie (29 not out) had other ideas and saw Locksheath home with 2.5 overs to spare with some brutal hitting.

A very good game of cricket played in the right spirit but Locksheath ran out winners by 4 wickets.

Man of The Match for Petersfield  - Ben Turk for his magnificent innings
Moment of the Match - Tommy Matthews surprise when everyone said what a wonderful piece of fielding it was.
