Petersfield Ladies v Ropley Ladies
10th August 2015
A very hot day greeted the Ladies on Sunday and thankfully Petersfield won the toss and chose to
bat with the Heath looking splendid.
The innings did not start well with the with 2nd ball loss of Tina Emery however last week’s century
maker, Helen Whitaker, and the quick running Angie Clarke settled down to add 68 for the 2nd wicket
in just 12 overs. The loss of Clarke who unfortunately played on brought 13 year old Emily Anscombe
to the crease and her hours of practice showed as she put on a 120 for the 3rd wicket following an
early reprieve after getting caught for 0 from a no-ball. Emily hit 4 fours in a classy 35 until she was
run out trying to take a quick single from a misfield. Captain Jackson then added another 49 with the
now flowing Whitaker who brought up her century for the 2nd successive week. With Helen finally
dismissed for 121, Emma Hussey then smashed a quick 17 which contained 4 fours and Shannon
Bowe added a few late runs to end the Petersfield innings on a massive 266 for 6 from their 35
overs. Adlam took 3 wickets and was the pick of the bowlers for Ropley.
Angie Clarke and Rose Emery opened the bowling for Petersfield but Ropley made good progress
with a 50 partnership for the 1st wicket but Jackson and Whitaker then entered the attack and
wickets started to fall at regular intervals as they battled for the bowler of the year award. The
Captain continued to rotate the bowlers with all six used taking at least one wicket and four catches
being held, 2 by Emma Hussey as the visitors were finally dismissed for 116 from 33 overs.
This was the final league game of the season for the Petersfield Ladies and should see them finish 6th
from the 11 teams in the Hampshire Ladies league division 2 this year. Any players interested in
