Celebrity cricket match

Dear PCC Members, players, wet weather support team heroes et al Just a quick line to add my thanks to everyone who took part in Sunday’s game both on and off pitch. Special thanks should go to the bucket and towel team, without whom no play would have been possible. The Rose Bowl cancelled play on Sunday due to standing water,,, here in Petersfield, with no specialist equipment or resources, a dozen or so people worked solidly for 5 hours and made the pitch playable. The dedication and determination of a few club heroes meant the show went on. I haven’t got all their names to mention properly here, but they deserve a group photo up on the wall with a brass plaque commemorating their achievement! I got in from London late last night and rushed off a post match press release to get into the Petersfield Post this week. Both Andy and Marcus were fast asleep so my apologies that the facts and figures aren’t as full, or accurate as they could be. Richard (surname unknown) scored a glorious 50 runs for Petersfield before retiring and was missed a mention in the release as I didn’t have his full name, my apologies monsieur. Due to lack of space may other fine performances, like Matt Salmon’s superb catch, were also missed out. The piece needed to be on Graeme’s desk early this morning to make this week’s issue so stuff was missed that should have been in there. The piece, which was nevertheless quite long, focussed on the effort to prepare the pitch, chairman Nick Blakstad’s glorious 6, the rather barmy Marquis of Queensbury bet reconstruction with BBC Radio 4, and the final result. The comics lost by one run AGAIN this year, making the last few overs wonderfully tense and exciting. The commentary from comics on the balcony throughout the 2 nd innings was hilarious once again, too many moments of pure gold there to count, or to tell those of you who weren’t there what it was all about. You had to be there,,, a pity more of you didn’t make it along to enjoy yourselves by joining in with the fun. Everyone there had a great time, though the spectator numbers were drastically down from last year. This is possibly down to the rain earlier/overnight for the most part? Though the morning was dry and the afternoon was glorious sunshine with only a dozen brief drops of rain around 4pm. Talking to Marcus and the comics after the match we’re all up for doing it again next year, subject to committee approval of course (doffs cap to the powers that be). We’ll keep you posted as to when we’ll be doing it in 2013 and really hope that more of you will come and support what I think is turning into a highlight of our cricketing season. Best wishes Chaz

  1. Hi, I wish I had known about this years match before it had already happened it was only tonight that I found out that there was another Celebrity cricket match which had already been and gone :( I don't know where it was advertised because I didn't see it, had I have known there was going to be another one this year I would definitely (unless an emergency arose) have been there, it was great last year myself and my little family were there for the whole game and totally enjoyed the day, I hope that if you have another match next year I get to hear about it before its already happened,

Last year I was posting on twitter and facebook on the run up to the day so that people knew about it, I don't know if you are on twitter? but if you are and post about it with the #petersfield I and others in petersfield will more than likely see it because that's where I look to see what is happening in our little town and if I see a tweet about it I will do the same as I done last year and re-tweet.

Looking forward to next years (if there is one and I've found out its happening before its happened)

    Regards
