Petersfield
U14 Girls v Locks Heath
10th
June 2012
It was cold and wet and
despite dominating ¾ of the game on Sunday the older of the
Petersfield girl’s teams fell 5 runs short of the target set by
Locks Heath in their league match on Sunday.
Petersfield won the toss
and elected to field and were quickly amongst the wickets. Some fine
hitting from the Locks Heath and Hampshire District Captain moved the
score along before Emma Barrett bowled her with the 1st
ball of her spell of leg spin bowling. Locks Heath struggled to move
the scoreboard after that dismissal and some excellent tight bowling
from Katie Nolan and Laura Bates frustrated the opposing team. The
late introduction of Olivia Wadey, who is arguably the quickest of
our strike bowlers, produced two more late wickets with both
dismissals hitting the top of off stump beautifully. Locks Heath
finished with an average 61 for the loss of 5 wickets from their 16
overs.
Petersfield started well,
with Katie Nolan and the hard hitting Olivia Wadey racing along to 30
for 1 from the 1st five overs and all looked set for a
Petersfield win however the cheap loss of the middle order and a
disastrous run out of the Petersfield Captain Jess Grange sung the
game towards the visitors. Izzy Whitley played well and kept the
scoreboard moving but with 10 runs needed from the final over
Petersfield eventually fell 5 runs short.
As
this was our first hard ball game of the season we should take
encouragement from how well we played and particularly how well we
bowled and fielded. Olivia Wadey both top scored with 12 and led the
bowling with 2 wickets for 3 runs but important bowling contributions
were made by all of the bowlers and from Ella Williams who kept
wicket well throughout the game.
