Petersfield U15s vs US Portsmouth

The U15s put in a decent display against an experienced Portsmouth United Services side, fighting doggedly before going down to defeat by 44 runs.

’Field’s opening bowlers Straw (2 for 16) and Squires (1 for 11) were immediately among the wickets, reducing US to 17 for 3 at one point in impressive opening spells, length and line bang on the money.

However a 4th wicket partnership between Birch (28) and Cussack (35) put on 74 runs and took the game away from Petersfield. The lads, though, stuck to their task, picking up late wickets, including 2 in 2 balls from debutant Dan May.

Despite some sensible batting for the second match in a row from Bird (19) and Anscombe (28 n.o.), the US total of 131 remained out of reach as the U15s finished on 87 for 7.

Again this was a good effort from our U15s, who are developing a very supportive team spirit. Better running between the wickets and cutting down on the wides will mean the side can become even more competitive as the season unfolds.
