Last Sunday saw the new Petersfield girls under 11 side play their 1st ever games in a 3 way tournament at the Heath ground.
First up were Hursley park, batting 1st and led by captain Lorna the Petersfield side started well with a 1st ball boundary 4 however this was soon following by an expansive hook shot from the Captain who destroyed her stumps in the process! That proved to be the only wicket that Petersfield lost posting an impressive 154 for 1 from their 10 overs with Molly and Olivia W scoring 4 4’s between them in their last pair stand.
Although they only lost 1 wicket Hursley Park could not match Petersfield’s big hitting with the game effectively ending when Molly ran out the threatening Jessica, Hursley finishing on 136 for 1 leaving Petersfield with a victory by 18 runs.
This left Petersfield to face St Cross for the tournament win and a place in the regional finals. Batting 1st Lorna again started with a 4 from the 1st ball leaving her 1st ball scores in the last 3 innings at 16 runs (4,4,6). Amelia also followed this with a 4 of her own until she was bowled from her last ball. Some good batting followed however 2 wickets fell in one over leaving Petersfield defending a slightly light score of 132 for 3.
St Cross made professional work of keeping the scoreboard ticking over despite some more accurate bowling and fielding from the Petersfield side. With just 2 overs remaining Petersfield needed to make something happen and Olivia duly obliged with a perfect pick up and 30 yard direct hit run out which stunned the St Cross batter. Unfortunately for Petersfield, St Cross regained their composure and finished on 142 for 2, a win by 10 runs.
Congratulations to everyone who played on the day, Molly top scored with 19 runs and both Olivia’s bowled well. I look forward to seeing this team develop over the next few seasons.
