Petersfield U11B vs Waterlooville

Petersfield U11B gained their first win of the season in their final game of the season and it was very much deserved as they put together all their small successes during the season to bowl well and bat well in the same match.

Waterlooville were put into bat by skipper Tommy Mathews and immediately struggled as Tommy and Cameron Porteous restricted the first pair to -1 run in the first 4 overs. More rusn were scored in the next 4 overs but further wickets by Jasper Cunningham and Kit Claasen.

Luke McGuire continued the good work by restricting Waterlooville to only a net increase of 3 runs. Luke was delighted to take his first wicket in competitive cricket. The bowling continued to be tight throughout from harvey baker, Hector Pocock and Ossian Tate. 2 further wickets were taken and Waterlooville finished on 244-9.

Matt Friend and Hector Pocock got Petersfield off to a great start scoring 25 runs off the first 4 overs. Although Cameron Porteous and Jasper Cunningham maintained the run rate they did lose 3 wickets with 2 run outs. Luke McGuier and Tommy mathews steadied the ship and after 12 overs Petersfield had reached the Waterlooville total. All they had to do was to avoid losing wickets to secure their first win. That is exactly what they did. Harvey baker and Kit Claasen took the total to 260 and then Ossian Tate and Ed Braithwaite took the total to 280-4 and Petersfield had won by 36 runs.

Coach Andy Salmon was delighted with their efforts. "All they had to do was to combine their best parts into one game and thyey achieved that in this game. I look forward to seeing how these players will now develop as some of them will move on to the A team next season. It has been a pleasure to coach them this year and they can all be proud of their efforts."
