After last weeks loss the lads returned to the Heath to face Portsmouth Community CC on an overcast and humid morning at the Heath. Alex Squires won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the opposition in to bat on a distinctly green and grassy wicket.
Oliver Simpson (2 for 6) opened the bowling and reduced the Portsmouth team to 6-3 off the first over. Will Grange and Joe Mayall combined to run the top scorer from the first game out without facing a ball. The Portsmouth team were struggling to cope with the tight and accurate bowling and apart from Louis Andrews (19 not out) all of the lads struggled against the Petersfield bowlers. At the first change of bowling Dan May (2-6) took 2 wickets in two balls, with Dan Eglestaff (3-2) doing the same at the other end Petersfield were dominating. Dan Parry (1-13) took a wicket thanks to a superb catch at short midwicket by Josh Bird then in the same over Tom Thompsett and Joe Mayall combined to run the last man out with some sharp fielding to leave Portsmouth all out for 36.
Petersfield looking for a good start so as not to give the opposition a sniff of a chance unfortunately lost Joe Mayall in the 2nd over after the ball did not bounce as much as he anticipated. Josh Bird (13) and Dan Parry (16 not out) then took Petersfield to within 6 of victory before Josh was superbly caught behind the wicket by the wicket keeper. Rob Schofield (4 not out) then hit the winning runs to give Petersfield 20 points and close the gap on Steep in the table.
A great all round performance from Petersfield to bounce back from the defeat to Steep the week before and so on to the last 2 games of the season against top of the table US Portsmouth.
Man of the Match goes to Dan Eglestaff for his fantastic bowling spell. Mentions also for all the bowlers who set up the victory.
