MATCH REPORT: Petersfield 1st XI vs Bournemouth II XI, The Heath – Petersfield, Saturday 23 May 2015
Petersfield crushed an under-strength Bournemouth side in their Hampshire Cricket League County Division 2 encounter at the Heath on Saturday, winning convincingly by 194 runs.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, ‘Field’s openers Damian Carson and Gabe Broadhurst, accumulated steadily, putting on 113 for the first wicket without offering a chance. Indeed the only surprise was when youngster Broadhurst was given out caught behind, feathering a catch to the wicket keeper, for a well-constructed 45.
Club captain Ash Spencer continued to take the attack to Bournemouth with a quick-fire 33, before Carson and the Petersfield middle order took the total to an imposing 282 for 4; the opener completing a fine faultless century to finish on 115 not out.
In reply, Bournemouth had no answer to the pace and aggression of Shaun Blanks (4 for 31). Up the slope he found the perfect length, removing the top order with three simple catches to keeper Harry Lambert. Petersfield were in a ruthless mood, Broadhurst’s one-handed diving catch at point symbolising their intent. There after the nagging accuracy of Mark Stanley (4 for 17) put paid to the rest of the Bournemouth line up as they subsiding to 88 all out.
Petersfield move up to third in the table, having won three out of three. A great start to the season, Petersfield are at home again next week against Old Basing, 2PM.
