Match report for Petersfield 1s v Hungerford

Young Colts help Petersfield CC 1st XI secure winning start to 2015 Season
Petersfield CC Vs Hungerford CC, Saturday, 09 May, 2015.
Petersfield 1st XI started their Hampshire League, County Division 2 campaign against a strong Hungerford side. Winning the toss Captain Jack Hannam did not hesitate putting Hungerford in to bat. On a good track the Petersfield attack made the most of the blustery conditions and moist May weather. Opening bowlers, Ben Turk and Shaun Blanks suffocated the top order. Turk removed Nell and Grimmond in his opening spell of 6 overs 2-8 and Hungerford fared no better when Damian Carson came on first change; Hungerford were quickly reduced to 55-5 from 19 overs. Rowell (59), Hungerford’s opener had been patient despite his partners perishing and now he and Hawkins consolidated the innings with a positive 80 partnership. With 8 overs remaining, Hungerford had recovered to 125-5 and looked on course for an improbable 195. The every wily Dominic Carson had other ideas and with shrewd field settings took 3 wickets for 5 in 4 overs and Hungerford were bowled out for 156.
In reply Nell removed the usually consistent Damian Carson for just 1, trapped leg before. However, Gabe Broadhurst and Ash Spencer then put Petersfield in command with an impressive partnership of 107. When Spencer was caught at mid-off for 44, Broadhurst (75) and Dominic Carson (23) accelerated to victory, reaching the total in the 39th over.
“It has been an impressive start, Hungerford will beat plenty of sides this year, so we have done really well. The Club’s junior sections are bearing fruit, our 2 young Colts (Turk and Broadhurst) were outstandingtoday.” said Jack Hannam, First Team Captain.
