Sunday lads put up a great show in defeat

The Sunday XI showed that they are improving with each game that we play.

After spending all week with 7 players I turned up to find that I actually had 12 players after my son decided surprisingly to play 2 games in a day after captaining the under 17s in the morning.

Anyway on to the game captain Colin Wisken won the toss and chose to bat first and the opening pair W Hucker (35) and D Saint (46) put on 71 for the first wicket before Rob Allerston (8 overs 2 for 45) bowled Hucker with a beauty. The scoring did not stop with that wicket and G Mason and Saint put on 58 for the 2nd wicket before Allerston bowled Mason. This brought in Greg Talbot (100 not out) who set about the Petersfield bowling hitting 7 sixes and 8 fours as he hit an Andy Barnes type 100. Frank Straw (8 - 1 for 30) removed Saint with a lovely yorker. N Taylor (6) was out off the last ball to give Bablu Khartick his first Sunday wicket (well done) to leave Churt on 257-4

After some lovely cakes and a good tea (as ever) Petersfield took to the field with skipper Squires promoted from tail ender to opener. Poor Jack Hannam (33) did not get to face a ball in the first 3 overs as Squires (21) kept nicking the strike. The pair put on 50 for the first wicket before Squires was caught behind off the back of the bat trying to pull Allen to fine leg. At that stage Petersfield were up with scoring rate with Jack and Richard Stephens(18) continuing the good start putting on 26 at a run a ball before Stephens was given out caught behind. Aaron Kentell (10) on his debut for the Sunday side hit some nice shots before being clean bowled by centurion Talbot (8 - 4 for 26). Talbot removed Jack Hannam and Rob Allerston (5) with balls that skidded on the otherwise good Heath pitch.

John Childs (24) and Frank Straw (70 not out) batted very well although Petersfield fell behind the required run rate. Frank especially hitting 3 sixes and 7 fours in a well made 70. Childs was out 2 overs from the end being adjudged LBW to Mermia (4 - 1 - 30). Alex Squire (5 not out) looked comfortable but Petersfield ran out of overs to finish on 205 - 6

Well played to Greg Talbot for a great all round performance for Churt

Frank Straw was Petersfields man of the match with wicket, runs and a catch.

1st Champagne moment of the season goes to Aaron Kentell who almost got out juming up to avoid a full ball from Talbot
