Petersfield U11A vs Portsmouth

For most of the Petersfield side, this was their first 20 overs game not played in pairs. Matt Friend was asked to bat by the opposing captain. Matt and Seb Kay opended the innings, but Portsmouth struck in the 2nd over. Ben Anscombe joined Matt Friend at the wicket and they started to tick the score over. With the score on 26, Ben went for a quick single, but a direct hit saw him run out. Ben Turk was next in, and with the assured Matt Friend, they took the score on to 44, but Ben Turk was then caught behind for 9. At number five was Ossian Tate, who joined Matt Friend in the 11th over, with 8.3 overs still to go. With the fielders closing in, Ossian put the first ball away for a 4. Matt was next to lose his wicket, run out by another direct hit. Alfie Casson joined Ossian and they moved the score up to 65 before Alfie was caught, bring Max Hendrick in. Max and Ossian stayed to the end both finishing not out, with Ossian on 9 and Max on 3. A total of 87 for 5, was a respectable start. Some excellent Portsmouth bowling and fielding, restricting the total.

In reply, Portsmouth find themselves 2 wickets down after 5 overs, with excellent bowling from Ben Turk, Ben Anscombe and Matt Friend. Ossian Tate, Seb Kay, Max Hendricks and William Milner-Smith, provided the rest of the bowling.3 catches went down, but the fielding was good, with some solid stops by Harvey Baker, Ben Kay and Kit Classen. Seb Kay was unlucky not to take a catch and Ossian Tate almost had a wicket but the ball alluded the keeper, Alfie Casson. With Portsmouth closing in Matt Friend returned to grab a second wicket. Portsmouth scored the winning run in the 18th over, so winning by 7 wickets.
