Petersfield U15s vs Fareham & Crofton

Petersfield U15s picked up their second victory on the trot with a convincing 9-wicket win against Fareham & Crofton.
Losing the toss and bowling first, the match followed a similar pattern to Petersfield’s previous home fixture. With our attack possibly showing some signs of ring-rustiness not having played for a fortnight, Fareham progressed steadily to 50 without loss before Aaron Murray (2 for 28) sensationally struck with a double-wicket maiden.
Despite a fighting 38 from Southern, wickets began to fall steadily, with Caddick (2 for 12) the pick of the bowlers proving a real handful with his pace and accuracy. Not even the unwanted distraction of some of the more odious examples of local pond life walking provocatively across the middle of the field could put the Petersfield paceman off his stride during an electric second spell.
Ben Cox (2 for 23) was the other wicket-taker, with Newman and Hiscock also bowling well and unlucky not to strike.
Chasing 114, Petersfield lost skipper Newman early on, unlucky to be judged caught behind off McMain. But this only brought Friend (50*) and Hiscock (44*) together, who calmly knocked off the runs showing real flare and exemplary shot selection. In what was a near-perfect run chase, the only doubt was who would get to their half-century first!
Despite some looseness in the field this was an impressive all-round performance from the U15s and sets the team up nicely for two tough fixtures to come against Hambledon (a) and Portsmouth (h).
