Petersfield U15s bounced back from their opening day defeat against Portsmouth in emphatic fashion, comfortably beating Havant by 7 wickets at the Heath.
The foundations for this victory were laid down by a superb performance from the bowling attack, with Rory Newman (2 for 10) and Aaron Murray (2 for 13) leading the way, well supported by a miserly Ben Cox (1 for 7 off 3 overs) and Nicky Caddick (1 for 25), who exploited the uneven nature of the wicket to great effect with his pace.
The fielding effort, greatly improved, featured two impressive catches by skipper Newman at mid-off.
Chasing Havant’s score of 87, Jordan Hiscock (32) and Ben Friend (37 not out) paced Petersfield’s reply perfectly. With Alex Thomas (6 not out) keeping a cool head at the death, the winning total was reached with 11 balls to spare.
This was a great all-round performance, full of spirit and sensible, skilful cricket. It will give the team a massive confidence boost for the tougher matches ahead.
