Petersfield U11As vs Locksheath

A lovely sunny evening at Penns and Matt Friend won the toss and elected to bat. Matt opened with William Milner-Smith but the Locks Heath bowlers of Sam Woodham and Sam Gardner were bowling superbly. A mix up saw William ran out in the 4th over with the score on just 3. This brought Gabriel Broadhurst to the crease. The Locks Heath bowlers continued to bowl tightly and their fielding was excellent. Runs were in short supply and Matt Friend was bowled in the 10th over with the score on 28. Ossian Tate joined Gabriel and they set about scoring some quick runs. Gabriel struck 3 fours and Ossian weighed in with some quick 1s and 2s. Gabriel retired on reaching 20 in the 17 over with the score now on 74 and a partnership of 46. With three overs left, first Ben Turk (9 from 6 balls) and then Seb Kay (8 from 8)joined Ossian, both being caught. Max Hendricks was bowled for 0 and Ben Anscombe made a single off the last ball. Ossian finishing on an unbeaten 15 and Petersfield closing on 95 for 5.

Locks Heath looked to chase but Ben Anscombe and Ben Turk tied them down with a brilliant opening four overs. Ben A got the first wicket caught by Ben T. Matt Friend then bowled three tight overs grabbing 2 wickets. For Locks Heath, only Jack Mennel was resisting and retired not out on a good 22. Wickets continued to fall and catches were being taking. Alfie Casson held a brilliant catch behind the stumps. Gabriel bowled his 3 overs and was unlucky to only take 1 wicket, bowling a spell of lively spin. Joe Clarke, Joe Eglestaff, Seb Kay and Ossian Tate all bowled an over, keeping on top of the score. Then Max Hendricks took over and what a devastating spell it was. He took 3 wickets for only 4 runs in his three overs and with William Milner-Smith grabbing a wicket maiden it was very nearly over. Ben Anscombe bowled the final over and his third ball hit the Locks Heath player who had to retire hurt. Locks Heath finishing on 53 all out.
