On an unusually cloudy day, the B team took on local rivals, Steep. Following their close match with Portsmouth and Southsea, the B side had high expectations that a win was not far away. Steep, though, had a few district players and were not going to be an easy target.
Tommy Mathews won the toss and decided to put Steep in. Steep showed their intend from the start and dispatched the first 4 overs for 24, this continued and wickets were few and far between. Thomas Stevens got the first wicket with a good stumping by Jack Butcher. Ben Dodds grabbed the second, bowled and also wicker maiden. His brother was not to be out done and grabbed a wicket too, again stumped by Jack. Two final wickets fell, going to Luke McQuire (caught) and Ben Kay (bowled). Steep finishing on 298 (scores start at 200 in pairs with -5 for each wicket).
In reply, the opening pair of Cameron Porteous and Ben Dodds faced some quick and accurate bowling, losing a wicket and taking the score to 210 after 4 overs. Jack Butcher and Ben Kay were next, with Jack finding three boundaries but also being bowled. Score was up to 236. Hector Pocock and Luke McQuire struggled to score and with another wicket falling the score was at 245. Two pairs left and first Thomas Stevens and Henry Dodds were at the crease. Losing two more wickets and taking the score back to 240. The final pairing was Tommy Mathews and Charles Haydon, and Tommy went after some boundaries. Both Charles and Tommy lost a wicket and Petersfield finished on 256.
Petersfield lose by 42 runs.
Top score Tommy with 10.
Bowling Ben Dodds 1 for 6 and
Tommy bowled his 3 overs for just 10 runs being unlucky not to take a wicket.
