Petersfield U11A vs Purbrook

On a sunny but windy evening, Matt Friend again won the toss and into bat went Petersfield. Normal openers, Matt Friend and Ossian Tate, took the field. Purbrook bowlers started well and accurate bowling kept Matt and Ossian at bay. A couple of quick singles and a boundary but with the score on 11, Ossian was bowled, the ball coming around leg and the wind taking it on to the leg stump.

This brought Gabriel Broadhurst to the crease and with Matt they began to build a score. The bowling remained tight but both batted well and retired with 20 runs each.

Ben Turk was undone by a ball that kept low and Joe Clarke was stumped by a quick take by the keeper. Ben Anscombe managed to push the score along, reaching 11 before being caught and with both Joe Eglestaff and Seb Kay unable to breach the field in the final over (both not out), Petersfield finished on 80 for 4.

A tough target to defend, but Ben Turk opened the bowling with a sprightly over. Ben Anscombe had the wind across and against, taking a couple of balls down leg, which were dispatched to the boundary. Matt Friend and Gabriel Broadhurst took over, Matt with the first wicket. There was some great fielding and Ossian made some good stops, returning the ball in to give just a single. The game was tight and Harvey Baker, Joe Clarke and Ossian Tate had an over each, the over from Ossian producing just a single. Seb Kay and Max Hendrick bowled next and then Gabriel returned to take 2 wickets.

The game was poised for a close finish and with 10 needed from 4 overs, Ben Anscombe returned to bowl a superb Maiden. Ben Turk then followed up with just 1 run from his over.

9 needed from 2, Max Hendrick bowled a lovely over, getting a wicket on the 5th ball, but a final ball wide, meant 7 was needed from the final over.

Seb Kay took the ball, but saw his first hit to the boundary. The wind doing tricks with the second, a wide resulted. So just 1 to win from four balls, and a quick scampered single saw Purbrook home to win by 6 wickets and just three balls to spare!

A great game, where Field probably needed a few more runs,
