Petersfield U15s vs Portsmouth and Southsea

Match abandoned due to rain

A frustrating evening for the U15s against Portsmouth & Southsea at the Heath, where persistent rain eventually forced the abandonment of what was shaping up to be an exciting contest.

Losing the toss and batting first for the first time this season, Petersfield got off to a good start with Friend, Newman, Hiscock and Caddick all getting into double figures. However conditions were difficult on a wicket that got progressively slower and lower, and the team were bowled out before the end of their allotted overs, for 94. Even so, in the circumstances, this was a competitive total.

With the weather worsening, there followed a frenetic passage of play in the second innings as both sides pushed hard for a result. A flurry of boundaries, wickets, run-outs and run-out attempts followed, before the umpires bowed to the inevitable and called the game off with P&S 22 for 3 off 4 overs and ahead of the required run rate.

The two teams will try again on Tuesday, hopefully with better weather!
