Petersfield U17s vs Grayshott

Petersfield made it through to the Quarter Final of the Hampshire Cup in a thrilling match against Grayshott at Penns Place.

Winning the toss, Grayshott decided to bat on a damp wicket and the Moseley brothers got them off to their usual good start. Nicky Caddick bowled tidily and the break through was made when Christie Salmon came on to bowl. By this time Grayshott had reached 59 off 9 overs and had set themselves up for a good total. Matt Clark joined Salmon and apart from from the stray ball swinging down the leg side kept the run rate under control. Clark accounted for Wrenn and Salmon got the important wick of S Moseley. When Oscar Windebank trapped Parkes LBW with his first ball, Grayshott were 91-4 off 15 overs.

Phillimore then came to the wicket and produced a sparkling innings of 36 not out to get Grayshott up to a respectable total of 130. Salmon finished with 2-23 and Windebank 2-17.

Matt Clarke and Matt Crouch got petersfield off to a solid start with 21 off 4 overs but then got a bit bogged down especially after Crouch was hit where the sun doesn't shine! he lofted one to cover shortly afterwards and Ben Friend joined Clarke. However when Clarke was out soon followed by Oli Shapley Petersfield were only 39-3 off 10 overs and well behind the run rate.

Christie Salmon came to the wicket and stepped up the pace. he was well supported by all his partners who ran hard which was shown by the 2 run outs. However they were putting Grayshott under pressure and mistkaes were starting to be made. Friend finished with a useful 20 but Salmon accelerated and he reached his 50 with a big 6 over mid wicket. Just 4 more were needed and a long hop delivered the next ball looked to be the one. But a thick edge lobbed the ball to mid on and Grayshott had their tails up. Sam Howe was run out and Bob Wemyss was bolwed with a yorker with the 3rd ball of the last over, This brought Nicky Caddick to the wicket who defended the next ball. With 2 balls and 1 wicket left, Caddick got bat on ball and scampered through for the winning run.

This was a great win against a good Grayshott team and coach Andy Salmon was delighted with his teams first win over them in all the years that they had been playing them.
