Petersfield U13s vs Hambledon B

On another very nice evening at the Heath Petersfield took on Hambledon’s B team.
Petersfield won the toss and chose to put Hambledon in to bat to give Petersfield a target to chase and also get first use of the new ball.

The opening batsmen for Hambledon then proceeded to make Petersfield regret this decision with both there openers retiring on 30 in very quick time indeed. Some tight bowling by Rob Schofield (1-13), Tom Pocock (0-8) and Will Morton-Scott (0-4) restricted the rest of the batsmen and they bowled around man of the match Ben Anscombe’s 4 overs in which he took 3-28 (two in one over) and Alex Squires who returned at the end of the innings to bowl a wicket maiden to finish with 1-18 off his 3 overs. Hambledon made 157-6 which was a great effort after the first 5 overs went for 57 runs with too many extras conceded for the managers liking although we had 2 or 3 of the lads carrying injuries which did not help with our ground fielding

Petersfield then batted with Dan Parry (31 retired) and Joe Mayall (20) put on 69 off 11 overs before Joe got out trying to push the scoring along. Josh Bird made 5 before being run out after a mix up with his partner. Matt Friend (11) played well in his first game for the Under 13’s with Rob Schofield (21) had Hambledon looking at the scoreboard quite a lot as the bowlers started to feel the pressure and concede to many wides and byes for the captains liking. Ben Anscombe came in to make a quickfire 5 but Petersfield fell 27 runs short. But for the 3rd game on the trot the lads made over 100 runs and if we can stop the wides, no-balls and byes from mounting up we can be very competitive this season.

Another very good effort from the lads and it is great to see the side progress each time we play which is always the aim of the coaches and the club. So onto the return game on Sunday at Hambleon and another close game played in the right spirit
